A: Replacing a heavy-duty spin-on fuel filter requires proper seal preparation and a precise priming loop to prevent starvation of the high-pressure fuel lines:

1.Drain the old filter canister:Position a clean catch bucket underneath.

Locate the filter assembly on the side of the engine block or adjacent chassis rail. Turn the plastic twist drain valve at the bottom of the filter counterclockwise to drain the trapped water and diesel fuel out into your catch container. Once empty, snap the wiring harness off the Water-In-Fuel (WIF) sensor if your equipment uses one.

2.Unscrew and remove the dirty filter:Use a strap wrench or filter wrench.

Fit a filter strap wrench around the body of the canister and turn it counterclockwise to break it loose. Spin the old filter off the threaded mounting stud, keeping it upright to prevent spilling any residual sludge or fuel.

3.Prep the mounting head and WIF sensor:Clean the aluminum mounting surface.

Check the threaded mounting stud on the engine to make sure the old rubber gasket didn't stick to it. Wipe the flat metal sealing surface clean with a lint-free rag. If your truck utilizes a reusable screw-in WIF sensor at the bottom, spin it out of the old filter, clean it, install a fresh rubber O-ring, and thread it firmly into the bottom of the new FS19765 filter.

4.Pre-fill and install the new filter:Lubricate the upper seal with clean oil.

Take your new Fleetguard filter and fill it up with clean, fresh diesel fuel through the outer perimeter holes (not the center hole) before installation—this minimizes the amount of air introduced into the fuel lines.
