❓ Quick FAQ
What makes this a "StrataPore" filter?
StrataPore is a patented multi-layer synthetic media offering superior dirt-holding capacity and high-flow filtration compared to traditional paper filters. As an "FS" filter, it handles both water separation and particulate filtration in one unit.
Which side does it go on, and does it use a drain bowl?
Typically installed on the suction side (between the tank and lift pump) to capture moisture and debris before the pump. It features a threaded bottom port for a reusable water-separator drain bowl, letting you drain water without replacing the whole filter.
How do I replace this filter?
- Drain the water bowl into a catch pan, then remove the entire filter/bowl assembly with a strap wrench.
- Unscrew the bowl from the old filter and remove the old O-ring.
- Install a new O-ring on the bowl and thread it onto the new FS20172 filter.
- Lubricate the top gasket and pre-fill the filter with diesel via the outer holes.
- Spin the filter onto the mounting header, then tighten an additional 3/4–1 turn after contact.
- Prime using a hand pump or by cycling the ignition, then start the engine and check for leaks.
