❓ Quick FAQ

What engines is this kit designed for?
The 4.6L/5.4L 3-Valve Triton engines, known for a two-piece spark plug design prone to snapping. The SP520 is Ford's redesigned one-piece plug that fixes this issue.

What are signs of failing coils?
Engine stumble/hesitation under load, misfires or shaky idle, a Check Engine Light with codes P0300–P0308, and reduced fuel economy from incomplete combustion.

How do I replace these without breaking a plug?

  1. Pre-soak plugs with penetrating oil overnight on a completely cold engine.
  2. Remove the coils (7mm bolt) and check the boots for carbon tracking.
  3. Break plugs loose with a wiggle technique — stop if you feel heavy resistance to avoid snapping.
  4. Apply nickel anti-seize to the new plug's shield (not threads), then torque to 25 lb-ft.
  5. Apply dielectric grease to the new coil boots and seat them firmly, tightening the retaining bolt.
  6. Reconnect wiring, clear codes with an OBD-II scanner, and test-drive for smooth idle and acceleration.
